Primarily exterior views of property west, north, and south of the Loop, to be acquired by the City of Chicago in order to be demolished for various expressway and building projects. Most of structures depicted no longer exist. Almost all are in areas now occupied by the Kennedy, Eisenhower, and Stevenson expressways or by the University of Illinois at Chicago. Includes both residential and commercial buildings such as storefronts, warehouses, and factories. Some interior views of factories include workers, and some exterior views of residences show children, people, and automobiles in the streets. Several exterior views of houses show people at windows. Several exterior views show billboards and political posters. One group of views of Mautene Court show residents with signs protesting the demolition of their homes. Another group of photographs shows a gas station and is credited to Peter Fish Studios, James Fish, photographer, 115 East Chicago Avenue, Chicago (Ill.).
