Includes two histories of the ITU, a centennial history of the CTU, and a history of the Woodruff Randolph Training Center.

Andrew Placente was a union member and activist who joined Chicago Typographical Union No. 16 (CTU) in 1941. He ran for CTU president in 1963 on the Chicago Progressives Club platform and was active in the Illinois Typographical Conference throughout his working career. CTU is Local 16 of the International Typographical Union.

The collection is arranged in three series.

Series 1. Union operations, 1936-1975 (box 1-3)

Series 1 contains the union's constitutions, by-laws, contracts, rules, meeting minutes, election campaign materials, membership lists, and accounts of grievances.

Series 2. Union conferences, 1958-1966 (box 3-4)

Series 2 provides correspondence and proceedings of the Illinois Typographical Conference, its Women's Auxiliary, and other meetings of regional typographical organizations.

Series 3. Miscellaneous materials, 1911-1973 (box 4)

Series 3 covers union related topics including histories of the International Typographical Union published for its 1934 and 1950 conventions, a CTU No. 16 centennial souvenir book published in 1952, an account of the Woodruff Randolph Training Center (1973), and other pamphlets, newsletters, and flyers.
