  • AbstractThe Alumni Magazines are published by the Office of Alumni Relations and have acted as newsletters for Columbia College Chicago's alumni, staff, faculty, and students since the 1950s. This collection consists entirely of the alumni magazines under its varying titles: Alumni Dial, Columbia College Newsletter, Columbia College Alumni News, re: Columbia, gravity, and DEMO.

Columbia College Chicago did not have any campus news publications until the 1950s, when the Columbia Dial emerged, serving as both a campus newsletter and an alumni publication. There were no formal college publications during the early 1960s, but in 1964, the Columbia College Newsletter began and disseminated news in a similar fashion to the Columbia Dial. In 1973, the College split the audiences and two publications were produced: Alumni News and the first student newspaper, CC Writer.

Although the publication of the Alumni Magazines has been inconsistent over the years, it varies between a bi-annual and quarterly publication schedule. Additionally, the Magazines have had several different titles over the years:

Alumni Dial, 1954-1958 Columbia College Newsletter, 1964-1967 Columbia College Alumni News, 1974-1985 Columbia College Alumni Newsletter, 1985-1987 Columbia College Alumni Association, 1988-1989 re: Columbia College Chicago, 1990-1993 re: Columbia, 1993-2000 gravity, 2002-2003 DEMO, 2005-present

The magazines are published by the Office of Alumni Relations and contain news and stories related to the College, its alumni, faculty, staff, and related industries in the arts. Feature stories typically highlight important work done by Columbia Alumni, how the College has engaged with its community, or major campus events.
