Mujeres Latinas en Acción is the first social services organization in Chicago devoted to improving the lives of Latina women. At a statewide conference in 1973, a group of Chicago women decided to form an organization designed specifically for Latinas. They incorporated as "Latina Women in Action" in 1975, changing to "Mujeres Latinas en Acción (MLEA)" in 1995. The main objective of MLEA is to provide social services to the Latina women in Pilsen; this is achieved through advocacy, education, training, referrals, and research. The organization also serves as a “voice for Chicago's Latinas on issues including immigration, access to healthcare and education, and reproductive rights.”

The records include narratives and papers written about MLEA, newsletters, flyers, press releases, newspaper clippings, and memorabilia. The collection consists primarily of operational files, including meeting minutes, memos, and reports. The collection also contains documents related to outside organizations.
