Victory Gardens Theater is a not-for profit theater company in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood. Since it was founded in 1974, Victory Gardens has developed a reputation for artistic achievement, earning the Tony Award for regional theater in 2001.

This collection contains scripts and other production materials of the Victory Gardens Theater.

The Victory Gardens Theater collection contains materials donated by the theater at various times from 2001-2012. Over this time, three separate processing projects reflect the arrangement of the items. Each new addition to the collection follows in its own alphabetical sequence by author - some of the same authors will be found in multiple locations within the collection. New alphabetical listings begin with boxes 22 and 26. These three distinct sections are arranged alphabetically by playwright and then by work. Any additional promotional materials for specific productions are filed to correspond with the playwright and the script. In addition to scripts and promotional materials, box 26 contains some Victory Garden Theater Playwrights Ensemble correspondence, meeting agendas, and a press release. Scripts and materials from the following playwrights are also represented individually through the Chicago Playwrights Collection: Claudia Allen, Lonnie Carter, Dean Corrin, Nicholas Patricca, Doug Post, and Charles Smith.
