  • AbstractPapers and materials relating to the life of Alberta Irene Wuerfele, a business executive who retired in 1984 as Senior Vice President and Comptroller of American National Bank, where she had started as a typist almost 39 years earlier. Wuerfele, who was brought up on a tenant farm in rural Kansas during the Depression and had very little formal schooling, made a career unusual for women of her era and mentored women who worked for her. Includes work and death records, correspondence, newspaper articles and other materials regarding awards and achievements, a few photographs, and a history of the Wuerfele and Graham families that she wrote during her retirement.
