David Root design collection, 1942-1975

David A. Root (d. 1995), a native of St. Paul, Minnesota and a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology, worked as a marketing, fundraising, and communications consultant in Chicago for over thirty years. Root provided services to various cultural institutions including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Ravinia Festival, the Washington Opera, the Wolftrap Summer Festival and Arena Stage. He was also involved in exhibition design for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Hagley-DuPont Family Museum, and the White House Preservation Fund.

This collection contains design samples of printed materials from various institutions, businesses and organizations. Some materials are Root designs; others are reference materials. Included are annual reports, pamphlets, book and museum catalogues, prints and drawings, sample books, and color charts. Also included are issues of several design journals. The materials date from 1942 to 1975. The majority of materials are from the 1960s.
