  • Collection summary Image of three Chinese architects looking at blueprints in front of the Chinese exhibition building under construction in early 1933 for the Chicago Century of Progress 1933 world's fair. The Berdix Lama Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Jehol, was a gift to the Fair from Vincent Bendix, exposition trustee. Located at 16th Street westward from the Hall of Science and just south of Soldier Field, the Temple was an exact replica of the original Chinese Lama Temple, built in 1767, and was constructed from 28,000 handcarved pieces shipped to Chicago which were then assembled and decorated.
