An accident involving the Doremus Congregational Church excursion train took place in Glenwood, Illinois, on July 13 at 6:55 P.M., and 16 people died, more than 80 were injured. The excursion train collided with a coal train known as "Extra No. 144" on tracks of the Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad Company.
