  • Collection summary Blueprints and architectural drawings and plat surveys and plat maps for properties owned by the Levi Leiter estate in Chicago (Ill.) or in other areas of the U.S. The estate was managed by his son Joseph. Chicago properties in the Loop include several buildings designed by Jarvis Hunt or other architects for retail stores and offices, including these buildings: Isabella, Lakeside, Konis, Spaulding, Bailey Edison, Leiter Building, and Leiter Building II. Plat surveys and maps of lots, some labeled with tenant name are included for 34th Street and Iron Street (Chicago Junction Railway office); 12th Street and South Water Street or Michigan Avenue and Market Street (1915 Board of Review); North Park Street and Wells Street or Schiller Street and Sigel Street (General Fire Extinguisher Company, Western Architectural Iron Company; 118th Street and 119th Street or Calumet Avenue to Indiana Avenue to Prairie Avenue and the Chicago and Western Indiana Rail Road; 45th Street and 46th Street. Documentation for sites outside of Chicago include plat surveys for Waukesha (Wis.); plat surveys for various counties in Wyoming; items about the estate of Mrs. L. Z. Leiter in Beverly Farms (Mass.).

    • Related materials at Chicago History Museum, Research Center, include the Levi Z. Leiter papers and Leiter estate records; the Leiter family photograph collection (1985.0464); and individual photographs of family members filed by name. Some printed works cataloged separately in the library include a book by Mrs. Mary Theresa Leiter, Levi Leiter's will, and items on legal disputes between Joseph Leiter and others. A volume named: Real estate assessment roll for Town of South Chicago and the Loop, 1892-1899, is cataloged separately.
    • Blueprints (11) and a drawing for schooners by William Gardner & Company (New York City), dated 1922-1923, were transferred to Mystic Seaport Museum, Ships and Plans Dept. in August 1993.
    • There also is a large collection of Levi Leiter papers at the University of Wyoming's American Heritage Center, much of it relating to real estate holdings in the West.
