Nourse and his family, including: his parents Francis and Sarah Nourse, who moved to Illinois from Massachusetts in 1855; Nourse, who served in the Chicago Board of Trade artillery battery during the Civil War and later established a lumber business in Chicago, John A. Nourse and Co. (1900); his wife, Clara (Swift) Nourse; her parents (Clara's father, Lemuel J. Swift, was a prominent real estate man from Chicago's West Side); and Benjamin F. Nourse, John's older brother, who served in the same Civil War unit and as a captain in the Police Battery artillery during the Chicago riots of 1877. Also present are images of: the John A. Nourse family house at 4820 Prairie Avenue; various people who may have been relatives, including portraits of the Archibald family and Dr. Nellie Flint; a sleigh with an advertisement for W.C. Reebie & Brothers warehouse company located at 546 Sheffield Avenue; and the storefront of F.T. Semple Carriages and Rimmer and McFarland Horseshoers.
