  • Collection summary Correspondence by World War I infantryman Theodore Frederick Thourson primarily written to his mother Hilda, his two sisters, Anna and Mable, with references to a third sister, Eva. He was a member of the U.S. Army, 33rd Division, also known as the Prairie Division. Thourson wrote about military life while he trained in Texas and New York, served in France, and was wounded in 1918, returning to the United States in 1919. Also included are transcriptions of the letters, memorabilia of the war, and a biography of Thourson written by his son.
  • Biographical or Historical Note Thourson was born in Springfield (Ill.) and moved with his family to Chicago (Ill.) in 1883. After World War I, Thourson lived in Chicago.
