    • Includes: Letter written in Acasto, Kane County, Ill. to his uncle, Heman Keys Hopkins, Glen Falls, N.Y - Plans of Paul and his brother, Hiram Cornell, to mortgage their Racine, Wis. place and to settle near Acasto. Mentions mass meetings at Fox River and at Racine for the purpose of making the Fox River navigable as far nother as Rochester, Wisconsin. Requests aid in securing Eastern mortgage money for their venture. Has sold his place in southern Illinois to get away from the Mormons (ALS, 4p., 1846 Jul.8); Letter written in Racine, Wis. to his uncle Hassan Artaz Hopkins, Glen Falls, N. Y. - Regrets Hopkins could not assist him to obtain Eastern morgage money. Unable to sell their place at Racine due to hard times, cannot even rent their blacksmith shop for the previous going rate, probably because of the veto of the harbor bill, "which has cast a damper over all lake towns."
