  • Access and usage restrictions To examine a cased image (Daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes) it is necessary to make an advance appointment by email to Research@chicagohistory.org or by U.S. mail to the Research Center. Cased images may be handled only by conservation staff of Chicago History Museum.
  • Collection summary Photographs primarily of the Neltnor family, including cartes de visite, tintypes, and snapshot portraits mounted in two albums. Included are single and group portraits featuring Cornelia Neltnor, Francis Xavier Neltnor, Mr. and Mrs. John Neltnor (Mrs. Neltnor was Mary Eames Kinney before her marriage), and unidentified family members. There are several images of interior and exterior views of the Neltnor home, Grove Place, and several photographs of the Neltnor family with horses. Included is a newspaper clipping advertising Cornelia Neltnor on a playbill as an elocutionist at the Grand Opera House, January 3, 1889. There is one panoramic black and white photograph titled: "1800 Gingham Dresses: Lakeview High School, May 31, 1922." Also included is a small hand-made album with colored illustrations and a sewn binding that contains one tintype and one photomechanical illustration.
