    • A few original items (ca. 1808-1838) relating to Fort Dearborn, the U.S. Army fort at Chicago (Ill.); transcripts (usually typed) of original items found in repositories in Washington (D.C.) relating to Fort Dearborn and copied for the Chicago Historical Society (ca. 1892-93) by Daniel O. Drennan; and correspondence, research notes, and newsclippings about the fort's history. Some of the transcripts and letters by Drennan are in a letterpress copy book, including letters to the Board of Lady Managers of the World's Columbian Exposition about a reproduction of the fort. Included among the research notes are Charles A. Dilg's comments (folders 12-17) on many different accounts of the attack of Aug. 15, 1812. Oversize materials include U.S. Army muster rolls and inspection returns.
    • Includes a volume with the cover title: Medical Prescription Book / Medical Dept. / U.S. Army that contains a list of prescriptions, 1832-1836, plus lists of trade goods in the 1860s. It belonged to Dr. Phillip Maxwell, and was given to Chicago Historical Society by J.L. Usher and Ellis B. Usher of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, on 1881 Apr. 26.
