    • Typescripts and scrapbooks containing correspondence, articles, clippings, etc. by or relating to Chicago stockbroker Edwin L. Lobdell and the Lobdell family. Includes a scrapbook containing some correspondence with politically prominent men about the tariff, and U.S. relations with Russia, Ireland, and Mexico in the early 20th century; as well as items relating to Lobdell's trip to China, Russia, Japan, and the Hawaiian Islands in 1908; other travels; two speeches on the Prohibition Measure; documents (10 items) of the early 19th century involving his ancestors; and genealogy of the Lobdell family.
    • A second scrapbook includes a few articles written by Lobdell for the periodical of the Union League Club of Chicago. Unbound typescripts include information on "Common stocks as an investment" (1928, 79 p.); commentary on American financial crises in the years 1837, 1857, 1873, 1884, 1893, and 1929, and lesson learned from these events (ca. 1932, 19 p.); the wisdom of investment in the Chicago Traction Properties in light of their incipient consolidation (undated, 24 p.); and personal reminiscences upon Lobdell's business activities as well as biographical sketches of James A. Patten, Marshall Field, and various members of the Lobdell and Gere families. The collection also includes a bound typescript (83 p., undated) titled: Random Reminiscences by My Father, Edwin Lyman Lobdell, edited by his daughter, Adeline Pynchon, for his grandchildren, that chiefly describes Chicago over the years, business ventures, and European travel.
