  • Collection summary Forty images of the Maxwell Street neighborhood taken by an unknown photographer on a single day in June 1952 (numbered 1 to 40). Includes views of commercial and evangelical religious activities, the built environment, and the diverse groups that populated and frequented the Maxwell Street market. Also present are 1947 interior views and exterior views of Municipal Airport (later called Midway Airport ) some showing airplanes on the runways; and a few aerial views of buildings in and near the Chicago Loop, such as the Chicago Daily News building, Butler Brothers building, and Union Station.
