  • Collection summary Photographs reflecting the life and career of Otto L. Schmidt, a trustee (1899-1935) and president of the board of trustees (1923-1927) of Chicago Historical Society. Includes broadsides relating to social and political events, some relating to German Americans, in Chicago and Illinois. Social events include an Illinois historical pageant (1918 : Chicago, Ill.), discovery of the Illinois dedication (1925), and Edwards County centennial celebration (ca. 1915-1925 : Albion, Ill.). German American events include a production at the Deutsches Liebhalber Theater (1849 : Chicago, Ill.), and Deutsches Mai-Fest (1922 : Chicago, Ill.). One notice calls for Americans of German and Austrian descent to vote for Chicago mayoral candidate Robert Schweitzer (1915). Also includes a subscription campaign notice for the Chicago Athletic Association and a summary of circuit court case Otto Rothenstein v. Scheidel-Western X-ray Coil Company.
