  • Collection summary Primarily contains views of employees, events, interiors, and exteriors of the Chicago-based department store Carson Pirie Scott, whose central store was located at the corner of State Street and Madison Street in downtown Chicago. Arranged alphabetically by topic. Topics include the construction and remodeling of the store's main building in the early twentieth century (built for the Schlesinger and Mayer department store), store openings (including other sites of the Carson's department store chain in Chicago and suburbs), company dinners, retirement parties, company outings, fashion shows, employees, and special store displays. The main building was designed by Louis H. Sullivan with an addition by D. H. Burnham & Co. and later remodeling by Holabird & Root.
