  • Collection summary Photographs of Howell Airport in south suburban Crestwood (Ill.) and labels prepared by Bill Howell when this material was in a scrapbook, which was dismantled for conservation reasons. The Howell Airport, which opened in May 1941 and closed in May 1989, was the last privately owned, state licensed, commercial airport in Cook County. Photographs show William Howell, Sr., with his first Piper Cub airplane in 1938, aerial views of the airport at different time periods as suburban development grew, Bill Howell's 1942 Stearman biplane, and other views of the airport and father and son.
