  • Collection summary Collection of views of activities of Chicago's IWS, a social service organization which resulted from a merger of the Milk Commission of Chicago and the Children's Hospital Society. Includes scenes at IWS stations with mothers and children being examined by health care staff. Photoprints and lantern slides show nurses visiting clients' homes and instructing parents, usually foreign born, regarding health, nutrition, and giving baths to babies. Also includes images of daycare activities, such as meals and supervised recreation. A few scenes show children with disabilities. Includes exteriors of client's homes and IWS stations, including the Child and Family Development Center at 1931 N. Halsted in Chicago. Some publicity material and annual report layouts are held with the collection.
