    • Record books of the Philosophical Society of Chicago (founded 1873 Oct. 11) contain in vol. 1: a list of members, their addresses, and dues paid, with a printed copy of the constitution and by-laws of the society and a list of officers placed in the back, and in vol. 2: a list of presidents and a list of dates and subjects of lectures presented to the society. Lectures were held on Saturday evening from October to April and followed by a discussion led by one of the members. Members and lecture topics represented a great variety of opinions, and discussion was to be dispassionate. Many of the lectures were held at Apollo Hall, Central Music Hall Building.
