  • Collection summary Correspondence, orders, programs, drawings, blueprints, books, and other papers relating to Edward F. Worst, an artist, educator, and craftsman who taught manual arts, especially textile weaving in Chicago (Ill.) and Penland (N. Car.). Printed materials include "The Story of the Penland Weavers," a copy of "The Educational Bi-Monthly" from April 1909 with an article by Worst entitled "Industrial Arts in the Primary Schools of Germany"; a 1930 centennial celebration publication entitled "Lockport has a Birthday"; brochures for the Penland School of Handicrafts in Penland (N. Car.), 1942 and 1948; a manual entitled "An Arts Course for the Grades," 1907-1908, with essays by Worst: "Work in Textiles" and "Suggested Course in Textiles"; a 1911 publication entitled "Rittenhouse School and Gardens"; the Lowell Textile School Design Book with hand-marked designs for weaving and notes regarding weaving projects; and "Right Living as a Fine Art," by Newell Dwight Hillis, 1899. The collection includes folders of loose bills, correspondence, educational plans, weaving blueprints, Worst's teaching certificate from 1893, and various project designs and drawings.
