  • Collection summary Scrapbooks containing photographs taken by Frank Spofford at the Chicago Railroad Fair during the summers of 1948 and 1949. Situated along Lake Michigan between 20th and 30th Streets, the fair opened on the hundredth anniversary of the first steam locomotive trip originating in Chicago and celebrated the significance of railroads for settlement of land and development of the national economy. Includes views of many locomotives and train cars, various exhibits, spectators, and the "Wheels a-Rolling" outdoor pageant. Each scrapbook is accompanied by detailed descriptions of every photograph.
