- Biographical or Historical Note In 1929, I. M. "Herb" Karoll and his brother, Samuel Karoll, opened Herbert's Men's Shops, selling shirts for 1 USD. They sold the company to Goldblatt's in the 1930s and in 1946 opened Karoll's Red Hanger Shops, a men's retail fixture in the Loop for much of the 20th century. Karoll's went out of business in 1991.
