  • Collection summary Views of sites along the Southwest Expressway in Chicago (Ill.) before and during construction, including areas of residences and commercial buildings along Pulaski Road, Western Avenue, California Avenue, Central Park Avenue, Damen Avenue, and Kedzie Avenue. On Sept. 1, 1965, the highway was renamed the Adlai E. Stevenson Expressway in honor of the late United Nations ambassador and former governor of Illinois. Also included are views of the Brighton Park community area, which became more easily accessible due to the new expressway, and views of theaters in the area, which were torn down in the late 20th century.
