  • Collection summary The Visual Index to Copy Negatives is composed of photographic prints that serve as a reference file to the first 15,000 copies made from original images in the Chicago Historical Society's Prints & Photographs Collection. These 15,000 images were the images most frequently requested by purchasers of copies from the collection. These images are arranged by ICHi-number, which is roughly in order by the date when a copy was first sold. Primarily the Visual Index contains images relating to buildings, events, people, places, and things in the Chicago metropolitan area (Ill.). Also includes images relating to American history from the Revolutionary War to the Civil War.
