The collection also contains records of the non-profit Chicago World's Fair 1992 Corporation that preceded the existence of the Authority; and studies conducted and printed by Arthur D. Little and Arthur Anderson, accountants and business consultants.
  • Location of Other Archival Materials Note Related materials at Chicago History Museum, Research Center, include the Chicago World's Fair 1992 Authority collection of visual materials (1992.0342); the records of the official "Chicago World's Fair--1992 Authority, Women's Committee" (as a separate collection); and other collections and publications relating to supporters and critics of the proposed fair. There also are files about efforts of Chicago Historical Society (CHS) to make sound recordings of meetings and interviews and collect documentations about the world's fair in the CHS archives under the title: "Evelyn Wilbanks office records."
  • Biographical or Historical Note Planning for the fair to be known as the Age of Discovery International Exposition ended in 1985. An independent, non-profit Chicago World's Fair 1992 Corporation was established in the early 1980s to begin planning the fair. Its functions merged into the official Illinois state agency known as the Chicago World's Fair--1992 Authority, when that agency was established (with similar personnel). After the Authority ceased to exist as a governmental agency, the fair planners resumed operations briefly as an independent, non-profit organization.
  • Acquisition information The papers in this collection are State of Illinois records deposited at Chicago Historical Society according to an act of the Illinois General Assembly. The sound recordings were made by CHS employees, primarily by Evelyn Wilbanks, who secured signed releases.
