- Collection summary Views of ships and docks along the Chicago River in Chicago (Ill.) by photographer and amateur artist Junius R. Daniels; plus photographs (ca. 1900-1907) of the interior and exterior of the home of his parents, George and Amelia Russell Daniels, on 64th Street near Pulaski, along with the surrounding Chicago Lawn neighborhood and relatives Mary Chopin, Dora, Olive Chopin, Mother, Aunt Sevilla, and Laura. Includes scrapbook (in box 1) of snapshots of ships on the Chicago River, each photograph labelled with the ship's name, ca. 1890s-1920s; b&w photograph, "Dusk," by J.R. Daniels; and a few platinum photoprints of ships. Also present are a photo card (cabinet card?) of Elsa Daniels as a young girl, by Alexander Hesler's firm, ca. 1883; and a photograph of a Prairie Club outing (n.d., 3 x 4 in.).
- Biographical or Historical Note Daniels was awarded first place in the watercolor category in an Art Student's League contest in 1903 for his "An Arrival-April Mist," which was donated to Chicago History Museum. He was a charter member of the Prairie Club; at various times up to March 1919, he resided at 6529 South Kimbark Avenue, 5337 South Dorchester Avenue, or 3655 West 64th Street in Chicago. He died in Athens, Tennessee, 1946 Feb. 15.
