    • Images, mostly made Sept. 1999- March 2000 (but some date as early as 1989), by these photographers: Lucille J. Adams, Antoinette Beckman, Phylis Cerney, Robert D. Essak, Eugenia Fawcett, Alan Havlicek, Jane H. Kriete, Russell Kriete, Betty Kubis, Earl L. Kubis, Lynne Lee, John McCarthy, Paul L. Meyers, Mary Milner, Ronald Perry, Beverly Rodgers, Carolyn Sparling, James Tomaszewsky, and Mary Vassalo. Includes views of events, structures, streets, and people in Chicago neighborhoods as well as in other towns and suburbs, including Blue Island, Brookfield, Burnham, Chicago Ridge, Downers Grove, Glencoe, Joliet, La Grange, Lemont, Lisle, Naperville, Oakbrook, Oak Lawn, Riverside, Schamburg, Summitt, Thornton, Union, Wheaton, and Woodridge.
    • Includes views of public art and murals, such as Com Ed mural, Walter Payton mural, Lorado Taft's "Fountain of the Great Lakes," statues of Lincoln in Grant Park, and Lorado Taft's "Eternal Silence" and "Fountain of Time;" statues of Harry Carey, Joe DiMaggio, and General John Logan; the Picasso in Daley Plaza, and Henry Moore's "Nuclear Energy" sculpture commemorating the beginning of the atomic age. Also views of temporary public art, including "Cows on Parade." Events include many fires, especially those at a River North art gallery, Hotel Paxton, 800 Wrightwood, 1300 South Ashland, Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, Saint Basil Church; a gas explosion and fire at CHA's Flannery Homes (1531 West Clybourn); and other events, such as Chicago Marathon, Triatholon, Chicago Avenue bridge collapse, Old Town Art Fair, Farmers' market in Daley Plaza, and holiday celebrations at Daley Plaza. Also includes views of buildings and landmarks, such as First National Plaza fountain, Skate on State, Daley Plaza fountain, old Inland Steel Plant, Navy Pier, Shedd Aquarium, Santa Fe Building, Marina Towers, Sears Tower, 333 West Wacker Building, North Avenue Beach House, Rainbow Beach beach house, Graceland Cemetary, Museum Campus, new Hyatt Regency, Lake Point Towers, Buckingham Fountain, Wrigley Building, Belmont Fire Station, Amoco Building, Chicago Cultural Center, Goodman Theater, and University of Chicago campus.

  • Acquisition information These slides and many accompanying photoprints were the gift of the Chicago Area Camera Clubs Association (CACCA) and gift of the individual photographers as part of the Chicagoland-in-Pictures project, an annual competition sponsored by Chicago Historical Society and CACCA since 1948. These images were accepted into the collection during the 1999-2000 competition (2000.0203).
