Topics of the Chicago photographs include sunbathing and other recreational activities at Chicago beaches, street scenes of the Loop and Old Town, neighborhood art fairs, and architecture.
  • Biographical or Historical Note Somogy was a civil engineer who immigrated to the U.S. in 1956 (at the start of the Hungarian uprising) and worked in Chicago for the American Association of Railroads at the Illinois Institute of Technology; retired to Sarasota, Florida, in 1975-1985; and then returned to Chicago. Though he was an amateur photographer, his work is often associated with the Hungarian photography movement before World War II.
