  • Collection summary
    • Images, mostly made Sept. 1983- March 1984 (but some date as early as 1950), by these photographers: Bruce Malmin, Curt Mitchell, Casey Prunchunas, Martin Schmidt, Jack Schwab, Charles Stinson and Sharon Zingery. Views include Lithuanian Fest; Maxwell Street Market; Automobile Show at the International Amphitheater; activities near Navy Pier; Air and Water Show; flower show at McCormick Place; 3rd Pan Am Games at Soldier Field (1959); construction of One Magnificent Mile building (940-980 North Michigan Avenue), stock car racing in Soldier Field; Beverly neighborhood fest; and 1978 Chicago Fest. Photographs were taken in Chicago and in the following suburbs and Illinois towns: Blue Island, Chicago Ridge, Evanston, Evergreen Park, Forest Park, Libertyville, Maywood, Merrionette Park, Oakbrook, Oak Lawn, Oak Park, Palos Hills, Skokie, and Worth.
    • The collection also includes many views of residences and other buildings on the following Chicago streets on the North Side, South Side, and Northwest Side: Tripp (6000-6300 North), Kedvale (6000-6100 North), Francisco (5000-5100 North), Keeler (6000-6300), Sauganash (6000-6100), Western (6800), Wells (1300-1500 North), Pratt (2000-2300), Farwell (2000-2300), Morse (2300), Leavitt (9000-10200 South), Hoyne (10300-10400 South), Hamilton (10500 South), Spaulding (11000 South), Talman (11200 South), Seeley, Pleasant, 111th Street (2600-3300), especially in these neighborhoods: Albany Park, Beverly, Pullman, and Sauganash. Also present are panoramic views of North Michigan Avenue and of streets in the Loop.

  • Acquisition information These slides and many accompanying photoprints were the gift of the Chicago Area Camera Clubs Association (CACCA) and gift of the individual photographers as part of the Chicagoland-in-Pictures project, an annual competition sponsored by Chicago Historical Society and CACCA since 1948. These images were accepted into the collection during the 1983-1984 competition (1984.0755).
