    • Images, mostly made Sept. 1997- March 1998 (but some date as early as 1956), by these photographers: Lucille J. Adams, Velma Berry, Donald Erbach, Bob Essak, Robert E. Farrell, Eugenia Fawcett, Alan Havlicek, Jane H. Kriete, Russell Kriete, Betty Kubis, Earl Kubis, Lynne Lee, John McCarthy, Paul L. Meyers, Mary Milner, Beverly Rodgers, Ron Rodeghlero, Janet Schleeter, Mark Southard, Carolyn Sparling, and Mary Vassalo. Photographs were taken in Chicago and in the following suburbs: Brookfield, Chicago Ridge, Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Evanston, Glencoe, Great Lakes, Hinsdale, Joliet, LaGrange, Lisle, Lockport, Lombard, Minooka, Naperville, Oakbrook, Oak Lawn, Peotone, Plainfield, Thornton, West Chicago, Westmont, Willow Springs, Wilmette, Winfield, and Woodridge.
    • The collection includes photographs of the Indiana Dunes, Kane County fairgrounds, Lake County fairgrounds, Palos Forest Preserve, flower gardens at Lincoln Park, Lincoln Park lagoon, Chicago landmarks during the Christmas season; miscellaneous skyline views, Chicago harbors, CTA and Metra elevated train stations, various construction sites, Bubbly Creek, Skate on State, and Navy Pier. Events shown in the collection include: Cardinal Joseph Bernardin<U+2019>s funeral, crowd control during NBA finals, fireworks, horse accident during parade, 1975 Air and Water show, State Street festival, Chicago Tribune's 150th birthday party, and various exhibitions. Buildings and landmarks include: Petrillo band shell in Grant Park, Elks Memorial, Flames monument at fire department headquarters; The Great Triumvirate sculpture of George Washington, Robert Morris, and Haym Salomon; Chicago Theater, 63rd Street Beach House, Sears Tower, Oakwood Cemetery, Balbo columns, Chicago bridges, Wolf<U+2019>s Point, North Avenue Beach House, Water Tower, Hancock Building, Art Institute of Chicago, Palmolive Building, McCormick Place, University of Chicago campus, Equitable Building plaza, Stephen A. Douglas monument and tomb, Chicago<U+2019>s orphan asylum tombstone, Centennial Fountain, Mayor Harold Washington's tombstone, Chicago and North Western Railway Station, South Shore Cultural Center, and NBC Tower.

  • Acquisition information These slides and many accompanying photoprints were the gift of the Chicago Area Camera Clubs Association (CACCA) and gift of the individual photographers as part of the Chicagoland-in-Pictures project, an annual competition sponsored by Chicago Historical Society and CACCA since 1948. These images were accepted into the collection during the 1997-1998 competition (1998.0191).
