  • Collection summary Reminiscences (2) relating to the Long family of Illinois. J. Henry Long's "Personal War Experiences" (53 p., leather bound volume), concerns his service in the Chicago Light Artillery, Battery A, during the Civil War, 1862-1865. The volume was dedicated to his beloved nephew and namesake Henry Heileman Wait. Topics include the Battle of Shiloh, the Vicksburg campaign, and the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. "From the Green Mountains to the Prairies in 1830," by Long's older sister Frances Maria Barker (29 p., typescript, January 1902), recounts her parents' move from Vermont to a farm on the DesPlaines River in Illinois in 1835, the 6 1/2 years they lived there, and then the family's life in Chicago until around 1850. Also present is a photocopy of the first page of a letter to "Dear Zetta" discussing details in this reminiscence.
