  • Collection summary Photographs taken in Chicago and northern Illinois by Chicago resident and professional photographer Frank Skalda. Chicago images include views of the Loop area (including Daley Plaza, people standing and walking on sidewalks, construction of the Marina Towers, and the lobby of the old Chicago Stock Exchange), Uptown, the North Side, the demolition of the Edgewater Beach Hotel, ships in the Chicago River and harbor, and road construction in the Chicago metropolitan area. There are also many scenes from the Illinois communities of Elgin, Wilmette, and Sycamore (including a festival of steam engines). Many prints include Skalda's handwritten descriptions and printing exposure details.
