  • Collection arrangement Loose programs arranged alphabetically by theater and then chronologically. The scrapbook remains bound in its original order. Unique call numbers have been assigned to each program.
  • Access and usage restrictions Available for research in the Special Collections and Preservation Division Reading Room of the Chicago Public Library.
  • Collection summary Gould had his programs bound into volumes, only one of which survives in its original form. Other volumes were disbound. Because Gould's personality is so strongly expressed in his notes, his programs remain together, rather than dispersed throughout the loose program files.
  • Biographical or Historical Note Elwyn Blaine Gould, born in 1854, was a businessman who came to Chicago in 1879. He was an enthusiastic playgoer who annotated his theater programs.
