  • Collection summary The collection is arranged into series: Biographical, Business Establishments, Religious Institutions, Clubs and Organizations, Historical Sketches, Residences, Schools, Streets, Transportation and Photographs.
  • Biographical or Historical Note The East Garfield Park neighborhood is 4 miles west of the Loop. The neighborhood runs from the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad tracks near Kinzie Street to a southern border of Taylor Street, and in some places Arthington Street. The large park, Garfield Park, forms the western border. The area was annexed into Chicago in 1869. East Garfield Park is number 27 of the 77 official communities that make up Chicago.
  • Access and usage restrictions Available for research in the Special Collections and Preservation Division Reading Room of the Chicago Public Library.
  • Acquisition information The collection was originally housed at the Chicago Public Library's Legler Branch Library. In the 1980s, with a grant from the Dr. Scholl Foundation, Special Collections transferred and processed the collection to make it fully available for research by the public.
