  • Collection arrangement The SCCC contains information about businesses, clubs and organizations, hospitals, religious institutions, municipal agencies, schools and streets with South Chicago neighborhoods.
  • Biographical or Historical Note The South Chicago neighborhood is 10 miles southeast of the Loop. The neighborhood extends along South Chicago Avenue east to the Lake and Calumet River and from 79th Street south to 95th Street . South Chicago is number 46 of the 77 official neighborhoods that make up Chicago.
  • Access and usage restrictions Available for research in the Special Collections and Preservation Division Reading Room of the Chicago Public Library.
  • Acquisition information The collection was originally housed in the Chicago Public Library's South Chicago Branch Library. In the 1980s Special Collections, working with a Dr. Scholl Foundation grant, transferred and processed the collection to make it fully available to the public.
