  • AbstractDesigns for Arts and Crafts-influenced silverwork by Peter Berg, probably for the Kalo Shop in Chicago, Illinois.
  • OriginationBerg, Peter L.
  • LocationThe collection is housed in the Art Institute of Chicago Archives’ on-site stacks.

Born in Drammen, Norway in 1885, Peter Berg trained in Norway and immigrated to the United States. In Chicago by c.1909, he worked for The Kalo Shop, designing and executing silver flatware and tableware. Although Berg had a workshop at home, it is probable that these designs were for Kalo Shop production.

The collection contains four drawings and one template for silverware items. The pencil drawings document Berg's designs for a pitcher; tea or coffeepot; cream and sugar set; and a tray. The template is for a tray. A photocopied set of pages from Berg's order book accompanies the drawings.
