Alicia Finkel, a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, received a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1957 from the National School of Fine Arts of the University of Buenos Aires. After moving to the United States in 1965, she worked for the Pittsburgh Playhouse, St. Louis Municipal Theatre, St. Paul Civic Opera, Berkshire Regional Theatre, Arlington Park Theatre, Equity Library Theatre, and several Off-Broadway venues. She joined the Goodman Theatre staff in 1968 as Principal Costume Designer. In 1976, Finkel joined the faculty of the University of Connecticut's Department of Dramatic Arts. Her book Romantic Stages: Set and Costume Design in Victorian England was published in 1996.
