The Near West Side Community Committee was founded as the West Side Community Committee in 1938. It was a community organization aimed at improving the 20th ward. The committee organized activities for young people, social welfare programs for neighbors, as well as neighborhood clean-up campaigns. The Near West Side Community Committee continues to operate on the Near West Side and has been involved more recently in such local issues as housing, youth programs, education, employment and land use.

The collection contains correspondence, photographs, financial records, directories, newsletters as well as the constitution and by-laws of the organization dating from 1947 to 1966. The materials pertain to the programs of the Near West Side Community Committee including youth programs and the Pompeii Camp.
