  • Collection summary Image of Bundle Day at Pugh warehouse. A male clerk is giving two poor women tickets to claim their bundles of donated clothing. The event's organizers planned Bundle Day to coincide with Washington's birthday, as a way of showing practical patriotism. Enough clothing was donated to clothe 2,500 people. The Pugh warehouse was located at North Peshtigo and East Illinois Streets in the Near North Side community area of Chicago, Illinois. A single light bulb is prominent in the foreground of the image.
