  • Description Wilmette business district, Central Avenue looking west from 11th St. Taken by an Illinois Bell photographer in 1937. Across the street, the side of the Nelson Building has a painted advertisement for Weeks Colonial Dining Room. The crossing gates for both the Chicago & North Western and the North Shore Line can be seen in the distance. 3 copies-copy 1 is contact print, copies 2 and 3 are reg. prints. Copies one and two have information on back from Illinois Bell, including precise date of photo: January 5, 1937. The photo was apparently featured in an issue of the Illinois Bell newsletter in February 1937. Visible at left is a brick wall painted with an advertisement for Weeks Colonial Dining Room, which was at 1131 Central Ave. from the 1930s to the 1960s. The film named on the Wilmette Theatre marquee is "The Girl on the Front Page" (1936), starring Edmund Lowe and Gloria Stuart. Stuart (1910-2010) would later play the older version of the Kate Winslet character (Rose) in The Titanic (1997). The front of the marquee, under the "W," says "Today: E. Lowe - G. Stuart / The Girl on the Front Page."
