  • Collection summary Scrapbooks, biographical material, newspaper clippings, World War II trade documents, correspondence, and research files of William F. Kruse, relating to his roles as director of the Young People's Department of the Socialist Party's national office and national secretary of the Young People's Socialist League (YPSL), editor of the Young Socialist's Magazine, and a defendant in the 1918-1919 trial of five Chicago Socialists for alleged violation of the Espionage Act concerning anti-war activities. Later materials relate to his leadership in the Workers Party of America in the 1920s, and his later work as secretary of the German-American Anti-Axis League of Chicago. A majority of the collection is disbound scrapbooks consisting of black and white photographs and newspaper clippings dating from 1915 to the 1940s.

    • Related materials at Chicago History Museum, Research Center, include issues of The Young Socialists' Magazine and several books on socialism donated by Kruse in 1968, a copy of his publication on how to organize Socialist Sunday Schools, and his speech published with addresses by the other men sentenced to prison for subversion.
