  • Collection summary Photographs from the personal files of dancer and actress, Sally Rand, primarily relating to the period 1949-1953 and Rand's traveling dance show, but including some earlier materials. Sally Rand became famous for her "fan dance" and her "bubble dance" (using balloons) that she performed at the Century of Progress (1933-1934 Chicago world's fair) and continued to showcase as a burlesque dancer in later years. The collection includes assorted publicity photographs of Rand; photographs of various acts in her traveling stage show, with dancers in costume; photographs of Rand and her son Sean, other family portraits and snapshots, and photographs of two of Rand's husbands, Thurkel Greenough (Turk Greenough) and Fred Lalla. There are also photographs of Rand taken in the 1920s and 1930s, such as publicity photographs for her burlesque act, various head portrait photos, and a film still featuring Rand in the 1926 film, "Bachelor's Brides."
