    • Correspondence, real estate papers, cash book and ledgers, personal writings and speeches, scrapbooks and autograph books, and memorials of Gurdon S. Hubbard, a Chicago fur trader, meat packer, shipper, and real estate speculator. The correspondence mainly relates to fur trade and real estate transactions but also includes personal letters concerning family matters. Hubbard's personal writings include a collection of reflections on his first year as a fur trader (1818). An itemized inventory of the collection is located in box 1.
    • The letters (approx. 100 items) are primarily those of Hubbard to his mother, 1818-1830; his correspondence with E. A. and Samuel Russell of Middletown, Conn., chiefly 1836-1842, about their real estate investments with Hubbard as their agent; and with Arthur Bronson, 1838-1840.
    • One volume contains autographs of friends at a celebration on Nov. 9, 1868, of Mr. and Mrs. Gurdon S. Hubbard's 25th wedding anniversary and the 50th anniversary of Mr. Hubbard's arrival in Chicago. Guests, many of whom were early Chicagoans, signed with the year of their own arrival in Chicago. Mrs. Gurdon Hubbard was named Mary Ann Hubbard.
