  • Collection summary Photographic prints (approximately 5000) and color transparencies (approximately 4500) created by Chicago photographer Fishman depicting performances and backstage of the Chicago Lyric Opera Company, the Goodman Theater, and the Academy Playhouse, among others. Black-and-white photographic negatives (approximately 500) depict Ft. Warren (Wyo.) during World War II; two small notebooks relate to the negatives.

  • Biographical or Historical Note David H.<U+00A0>Fishman<U+00A0>(1914-1977) was born in Chicago and attended Tuley High School and the Art Institute of Chicago (graduated 1938). In addition to being a stage designer, production designer, and technical director of a semi-professional theater company in Chicago,<U+00A0>Fishman<U+00A0>became the theatrical photographer for noted Chicago theater companies including the Lyric Opera, the Goodman Theatre, the Drury Lane Theater (in Lincolnshire, IL), the Happy Medium, and the Academy Playhouse.
