Collection summary

Printed materials and black-and-white, color (1), and hand-painted (1) photographs and photograph postcards related to and collected by Anna Jaros. Portraits depict members of the Halsted Street Church (located at Halsted and 20th Streets, Chicago); the Cervenka, Herda, Hraback, Jaros, and Peroutka Bohemian American families of Chicago; baseball player Fred Phelps; and members of Czech clubhouses in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood and Fox Lake, Ill. Also included is a photograph album documenting Jaros' 1919 trip to Yellowstone National Park, Colorado Springs, and Kansas City with Western Union co-workers, Dorothy Beckett and Mary Tensen. Additional images document an 1898 victory celebration for the Spanish American War in Chicago. Printed materials include a Halsted Street Church calendar, assorted postcards and a Valentine card sent to Jaros, and a book of poems sent to Jaros and the Junior Choir in 1906 from choir director, J. Wasey.
Anna Peroutka (nee Jaros) was born in 1893 to an immigrant family from Bohemia who settled in Chicago. She worked at Western Union in Chicago before she married Frank Peroutka in 1921.
