  • Collection summary Photographs of the town and activities of Pullman, Ill. (now a Chicago community) after the death of founder, industrialist and community planner George Pullman. Predominant are exteriors and interiors of industrial buildings, some which show men engaged in labor. Also includes several photographs of Pullman manufactured railroad cars, including exteriors of freight and passenger cars, interiors of parlor and passenger cars. Some scenes show offices with men and women doing office work. Other scenes show the town's buildings such as dwellings, the administration building, fire department, hospital, library, Hotel Florence and the Arcade. Town activities show a few parades, war bond rallies during World War I, Black military men posed in a group, and a small baseball game. Also includes a few general cityscapes, town plans and industrial scenes in winter. Includes portraits of individual workers, of George Pullman and photographs of awards and memorial plaques to him.
