  • Collection summary Correspondence, memorandums, newspaper clippings, campaign literature, speeches, press releases, and other papers chiefly documenting Rentschler's political activities, including such aspects of his leadership of Richard Nixon's 1968 presidential campaigns in Illinois and of his own candidacies in 1960 and 1970 for the Illinois Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate as fundraising, press relations, and networks of support established throughout the state; together with material about Rentschler's formation of Citizens for a Stronger Republican Party in 1970, his work with Young Republican National Federation and United Republican Fund of Illinois, and various civic, business, and personal activities, among them his service as a director of Better Boys Foundation and as a trustee of Rockford College (Rockford, Ill.). Correspondents include news publications throughout Illinois and the country, and other Republican leaders, such as John Altorfer, Harry Dent, Robert Finch, Harold Byron Smith, Jr., and W. Clement Stone. Collection also includes Rentschler's senior college thesis on Henry Jarvis Raymond, editor of the New York Times during the Civil War; and 6 reel-to-reel audio tapes.
